  • Performative Digital Works

    • Interactive Futures 2007: The New Screen
Throughout 2007, in the spirit of open collaboration, several media artists from around the world worked together using open source blogging software to present and remix audio pieces, Flash animations, digital images, visual poetry and texts. Three members of the remix attended The New Screen conference/festival and presented work that was developed from material on the blog. Entitled The Devil’s Rope Journal (an irregular journal with barbs at regular intervals), Randy Adams (Can), Chris Joseph (Can/UK) and Christine Wilks (UK) together performed the suite. Some of the animations were also used during a VJ set during the conference's closing event.

Are the ethics and guidelines, developed for traditional arts and writing, at all useful or applicable for best practice in New Media Writing? Screeing: Created using various 'out of the box' digital tools, 'Reel' Writing explores how images and texts appropriated from online sources can be remixed. It questions how much remixing is necessary for an artist to claim that their work is original? And does it matter?
